Hiya! I'm Makiya Davis-Bramble.

I'm passionate about amplifying Caribbean histories and decolonising colonial narratives.

I specialise in Indian indenture history, Colourism, and British Empire stories,

With family heritage from St. Vincent, Montserrat, and Canada, I bring a diasporic lens to my work.

As a Curator at the International Slavery Museum and a PhD candidate, I push British-Caribbean personal histories to the forefront, creating community-focused heritage experiences.

  • Curating exhibitions, displays, and programmes for multicultural audiences. Centring Indian indenture history, Caribbean narratives, and discourses of empire and colonisation, to name a few.

  • Undertaking archival research, cataloguing, and other professional archival work. Helping to bring fresh audiences to collections and uncover lesser-known stories.

  • Creating exciting opportunities for heritage organisations to explore historical narratives in new ways. Identifying chances to engage with sensitive and important GEM histories.

  • Enhancing and updating heritage records using a decolonial lens. Developing approaches to collections that re-contextualise, re-interpret, and re-imagine existing items.
